Can Hypertension Sufferers Eat Goat Meat? Here Are the Facts!

BANDUNG, unpas.ac.id – Slaughtering sacrificial animals during Eid al-Adha has become a tradition for every Muslim who is able to carry it out. Slaughtering sacrificial animals is a symbol of sincerity and obedience to Allah SWT. Usually the sacrificial animals that are slaughtered are cows, camels, goats or sheep. However, goat meat remains a favorite for some people during Eid al-Adha.

There are many nutrients contained in goats, such as protein, fat, potassium, iron, calcium, zinc, selenium, phosphorus, folate, vitamin B, vitamin E and vitamin K. However, this meat is also a source of saturated fat. If consumed in excessive amounts, it can increase bad cholesterol levels in the body.

If cholesterol levels increase, it will be very dangerous if consumed by people with hypertension or high blood pressure. It is known that 100 grams of goat meat contains a total of 9.2 grams of fat and 70 mg of cholesterol.

Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, Pasundan University, dr. Mia Miranda, M.Kes, Sp.GK explained that goat meat has less fiber than beef. “Goat meat has distinctive characteristics. That is, it has almost no fat under the skin. The excess fat is stored as fat spread between the meat fibers,” he explained.
