Bandung, October 11, 2025 – In commemoration of World Alzheimer’s Day 2025, Alzheimer Indonesia (ALZI) Bandung in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, Pasundan University (FK UNPAS) held a medical seminar entitled “From Forgetfulness to Hope: The Importance of Early Detection and Early Management of Dementia.” This activity was held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Pasundan University, Bandung.
This seminar was part of an effort to raise public awareness of Alzheimer’s, dementia, and Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD). The event was attended by UNPAS Faculty of Medicine students, lecturers, healthcare workers, and the general public concerned with brain health and quality of life.
Alzheimer’s disease is one of the leading causes of dementia, a condition characterized by cognitive decline that affects memory, thinking skills, behavior, and daily activities. Many people still consider “senility” a normal part of the aging process. However, cognitive impairment that impedes daily activities is not a physiological condition and requires further medical evaluation.
Through this seminar, participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the importance of early detection, early symptom identification, and appropriate treatment to slow disease progression. Furthermore, education about modifiable risk factors such as smoking cessation, cholesterol control, obesity prevention, and healthy lifestyle practices are essential components of prevention strategies.
This activity also emphasizes that Alzheimer’s and cognitive impairment don’t just occur in older adults but can also appear at a younger age. Symptoms such as difficulty concentrating, memory loss, behavioral changes, and the emergence of BPSD symptoms such as agitation, depression, and hallucinations need to be identified early.
According to Berryl Destiano Putra, a first-year undergraduate student at the Faculty of Medicine, UNPAS, he is grateful to have learned more about Alzheimer’s, dementia, and BPSD. He believes that as a future doctor, it is important to develop empathy and concern for people experiencing dementia and Alzheimer’s.
The collaboration between ALZI Bandung and the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Pasaman (UNPAS) represents a concrete step in strengthening the role of academics and healthcare professionals in addressing the challenges of dementia in Indonesia. Through educational activities like this, it is hoped that sustainable synergy will be established between educational institutions, communities, and the public to improve health literacy and the quality of life for patients and their families.
The spirit of “From Forgetfulness to Hope” serves as a reminder that behind the challenges of dementia, there is hope through awareness, early detection, and ongoing collaboration.
Together with the Faculty of Medicine at UNPAS and ALZI Bandung, we are taking concrete steps to create a society that is more aware, empathetic, and responsive to Alzheimer’s and dementia. This aligns with the Faculty’s vision and mission to continuously serve the community.
